🎤 Michael Bauer (Jena University Hospital, Germany)
M. Bauer is head of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Jena University Hospital, Germany. His research focuses on basic, translational and clinical research in infection-associated organ dysfunction and theranostic strategies to restore organ function. This includes the development of diagnostic tools for the assessment of life-threatening infections, the development of theranostic approaches enabling individualized treatment strategies, and clinical management.
💬 Biomarkers for Sepsis: What’s Next?
Research on biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of sepsis has been continuously increasing for two decades, reaching over 1,700 publications in 2025 alone. Definitions of clinical phenotypes and endotypes can be considered milestones in this development. Further, investigations regarding biomarker-based predictive enrichment of patient populations for targeted treatment are gaining momentum.
This talk summarizes recent developments and current challenges in identifying treatable traits and transferring this knowledge to the bedside for improved outcomes in sepsis.
