🎤 Prof. Mervyn Singer (University College London, UK)
Mervyn Singer is Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at University College London, UK. His major research interests include basic, translational and clinical research studies in sepsis. He co-chaired the ‘Sepsis-3’ Definitions International Task Force and was one of the leads for SOFA-2. He is the Sepsis Topic Adviser to NICE, past-Chair of the International Sepsis Forum and an Emeritus UK NIHR Senior Investigator.
💬 Assessing organ dysfunction in sepsis
SOFA-1 was published in 1996 and has become the mainstay for describing organ dysfunction in the critically ill patient. However, many changes in practice (and outcomes) have occurred over the last 30 years so an update (SOFA-2) was clearly required This talk describes the changes made in SOFA-2, the process and rationale underpinning the recommendations, and future challenges.
