My Sepsis Story is a conversation series exploring sepsis through lived experiences.
Episode 1 - Krista
Originally from Belgium, Krista is a sepsis survivor whose journey is a testament to remarkable resilience. In January 2009, a Streptococcus pyogenes infection caused sepsis, changing her life forever. She had to undergo the amputation of both legs, as well as reconstructive surgery on her right hand. A few months later, in December 2009, she was diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency.
But Krista refuses to be defined by the challenges she has faced. She chooses to move forward, rebuild her life, and push her own limits. In 2015, she embarked on a new adventure by becoming a "bladerunner."
Today, Krista uses her experience to help others by sharing her story and helping amplify the voices of people affected by sepsis.
