A new working group on sepsis and cancer has been launched at the initiative of the Jibraan Chaudhary Sepsis Research Foundation, in partnership with 8 other European organizations, with the aim of fully integrating sepsis into oncology care pathways.
Sepsis remains one of the most serious and underestimated complications affecting people with cancer. Patients undergoing chemotherapy—particularly those presenting with neutropenia—face an increased risk of infection, rapid clinical deterioration, and recurrent episodes of sepsis.
The sepsis and cancer working group aims to bring together multidisciplinary expertise to strengthen the prevention, early detection, and management of sepsis in cancer patients. It also seeks to bridge existing gaps in care pathways, research, and healthcare policies, ultimately improving outcomes for immunocompromised patients.
The working group will serve as a collaborative platform, bringing together clinicians, researchers, patient advocates, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to identify shared solutions at both national and European levels.
