Welcome to Susy Echeverría

Susy joined the IHU SEPSIS on May 4, 2026 as a postdoctoral researcher in the DAVID laboratory at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ).

Could you briefly summarize your background?

I am a researcher specializing in spatial epidemiology, quantitative modeling, and environmental health. With more than ten years of experience across Colombia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, I have developed a multidisciplinary expertise centered on the use of data to drive meaningful impact in public health and environmental sustainability.

I have contributed to large-scale research projects investigating the human impact on biodiversity. Later, as part of the Vaccine Impact Modelling Consortium, I assessed the impact of 12 vaccines across 112 countries worldwide, working in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), Gavi, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Now based in France, I apply my expertise in geospatial analysis, machine learning, and reproducible workflows to support high-impact public health and environmental research projects.

What is the objective of your postdoctoral research?

My project aims to characterize the geographical heterogeneity of sepsis across France using hospital data, and to investigate the extent to which this heterogeneity is associated with environmental, socioeconomic, and structural factors measured at a fine geographic scale (IRIS and municipality levels). The goal is to generate evidence that can inform prevention strategies and contribute to reducing territorial health inequalities.

To achieve this, I will use spatial statistical methods and advanced artificial intelligence approaches to analyze complex, multidimensional datasets and identify interactions between environmental, social, and health-related factors.

Thank you for answering our questions. We are happy to welcome you to the IHU SEPSIS and wish you every success in your research projects.
